Georgia Public University Update 2026: International Students Can Still Study in Georgia

What Has Changed?

From the 2026–2027 academic year, the Government of Georgia is prioritizing free and subsidized education for Georgian citizens at public (state) universities. As a result, many public universities are expected to limit or suspend new international admissions.

This policy does not apply to Georgia's private universities, which continue to admit international students for MBBS, Engineering, Business, IT, and many other English-medium degree programmes.

Are Current Students Affected?

No. International students already studying at public universities can continue their education without interruption. The changes apply only to new admissions.
